I have asked MS3B to stop featuring my content because they were largely responsible for my lost interest in creating CC.

(Yes, I know they’re convenient! You know what else is convenient and doesn’t allow creators to be flamed and has a nice interface? Sims 3 Updates)

While I was not attacked personally, I was disgusted by the way that many other creators were treated there. Because of the laissez-faire approach to protecting creators and all the abusive comments, I ended up viewing the TS3 community as a bunch of spoiled asshole brats. The thought of sharing my CC with such enormous fuckwits demotivated me from creating new things. Because honestly, it’s no skin off my back if I stop creating, and I do have other artistic hobbies that I enjoy.

We (creators) are not paid. We don’t have to share anything. You don’t fucking deserve to have awesome CC. It’s not a right. And it’s unbelievably spoiled & disrespectful to criticize the free gifts we create for you. Yes, even the shitty ones. Even the ones you don’t want. Even some cut & paste, photoskinned, nonCASTable project that a 10 year old could make is more than you deserve because we don’t owe you anything.

It’s totally backwards that the TS3 culture is so hostile towards creators--that everything we do that isn’t perfect is an invitation for abuse and criticism. It’s crazy that this is allowed and even expected. Sure, it’s great for utterly useless people who think they’re super-cool for bashing others, but it’s terrible for creators. And personally, I’d rather the TS3 community lose 1000 useless people than lose 1 creator.

It’s sad that people are afraid to try creating CC because of all the criticism. It’s sad the creators are stressed about releasing CC because of the reactions. And it’s sad that so many novice (and even experienced) creators have dropped out of the TS3 community. Novices do get better, but they need encouragement. Some of my first leggings for TS3 were practically bucket-filled. Yes, bucket-filled! I’m just glad that I posted them somewhere with a positive environment (yay, MTS!) and got the encouragement that I did back when I was CC newb.

If you made it this far, congratulations on having an attention span.

I know that not all of you are fuckwits. Many of you are actually generous enough to take 2 minutes to thank/compliment the creator who spent 10 hours making the CC that you downloaded. To you people, thank you for being decent human beings. Keep it up.

I agree with you completely. People seem to have forgotten to, y'know, just NOT get something when they don't want it--no, they've got to bash it thoroughly into the ground. And I'm quite sure that the vast majority of anonymous complainers on MS3B don't actually create anything for the community, nor have the first idea how to get started. But boy oh boy do they know how to complain real good!

I agree that a lot of the people commenting at MS3B are ridiculous, but please don't think it represents the vast majority. It just always happens that the most vocal people are usually the idiots. I love your content and appreciate that you make my game more beautiful and that goes for every other creator, as well. I wish that more people that appreciate creators and are grateful for their hard work would comment, rather than the people that find almost any reason to complain about anything.

You're right. I know that trolls aren't the vast majority of the TS3 community, but it's hard to keep reminding myself of that when they are so vocal. That's why I think it's best if I just dissociate myself completely from MS3B and do my own thing on my site. Thanks for the comment.

As a fan of your CC and your attention to the gay community, which is greatly appreciated considering the virtual desert out there for gay content, I would like to extend an invitation.

The demand for custom content is constantly on the up, yet these hypocrites continue to discourage and bitch about the quality of uploads both from both new and experienced artists.

Now, I call these people hypocrites because the majority of them wouldn't know how to use Photoshop, CTU, Milkshape, S3PE and the like if a manual jumped out of the screen and shoved itself up their nose. You can't possibly have the right to criticise content unless you know how it's made, and understand the time and effort that goes into each and every creation. To all those who complain, I say 'come back when you can do better'.

Those who do know what they're doing with CC should just plain know better, they know how much hard work it takes to come out with something that doesn't look like the back end of a camel, and complaining only highlights their insecurities about their own content. If they can't see another creation without having to pick out something wrong with it, then it looks like they're simply attempting to make themselves look better by putting a downer on others. Classic, pathetic, schoolyard bullying.

I went so far as to start up my own CC collection blog - there are a handful of these scattered around but not many of them moderate their comments as far as I can tell by the amount of spam.

My site is only a couple of months old, so there's a serious lack of commenting aside from the occasional thank you from artists for featuring. But that's just fine by me - To me, these sites aren't supposed to be for discussing the content, I can't speak for other site owners but for me, the point is to showcase the community, not bitch about it. If people have comments on the creations, the place for that is the original upload. Any negative comments on my site would be swiftly burned by the fires of hell themselves. Or deleted, either way. I know for sure I don't create stuff to have it flamed and disregarded, so I wouldn't ever let that happen to other creators.

I don't know how people can just sit there and watch artists being bullied on their site when they have the ability to do something about it!

Well, of course there isn't! You keep flaming creators and making them quit before they have a chance to improve! On top of that, creating for TS3 is vastly more difficult than for TS2!

It's so disappointing on the rare occasions when it's actually another creator flaming another one, and you're right about why they do it--school yard bullying. They just want to impress a bunch of other assholes.

And honestly, knowing everything that goes into creating CC that doesn't look like "the back end of a camel" is why I can understand when creators decide to go pay or join TSR. Especially when reading the comments at MS3B, I have asked myself "...and why am I creating free content for these assholes when, at the very least, TSR subscribers know and acknowledge the value of hard work?" IMO, the only "greedy" people in the TS3 community are the people who complain, never donate, don't know how to create shit, and expect to be given tons of awesome content for free. I'm still a free creator though because I feel grateful to a handful of awesome people (cc creators and toolmakers) in the free community. But all this is another can of worms...

I'm so unbelievably late with this reply, but you've totally summed up my opinion there.

I got into a bit of an argument (not an angry one, it was more of a polite discussion to be fair) with someone via email the other day (who shall remain anonymous, don't want to cause a shitstorm)

They basically took me up on comments I made on my site's facebook page about welcoming any creator with any quality creation. They asked why then, if I'm making such a 'big deal' about the noobs, am I not directly inviting them individually to have their creations featured, when I've publicly asked some of the more experienced creators.

A perfectly normal question to ask, but the answer seems a bit obvious to me. They're just starting out! If they wanted to have their creations featured, when they're ready, I've made it quite clear that they only have to send me a quick email or whatever and I'll do it without question. I'm not going to go storming in putting pressure on them! ... As for the experienced creators, of course I'm going to invite them! That's generally how a custom content site works :/

This wasn't supposed to be a rant haha! Never mind. Rants are good for the soul.

Totally agree with you on the joining TSR/going pay thing - saying I'll feature any content works both ways, so I have absolutely no qualms whatsoever about featuring pay/subscriber/donation content on my site. I try to keep it mostly free, but I'm not going to discriminate featured artists on TSR or people like Newsea - at the end of the day there are people who have paid the subscriptions etc, who would probably quite like to know when those sites update! They're paying for it haha! And also we have to be honest, those people are Featured artists/paid artists for a reason - they're damn good at what they do!

Well, it's also more efficient to contact experienced creators because the experienced ones are more likely to continue producing CC that can be repeatedly featured (since they've already demonstrated they aren't just "dabbling"), and there are much fewer experienced creators than newer creators.

I'm glad to find someone else who doesn't foam at the mouth at the mention of TSR/pay creators. Even though I'm not an avid fan of either, I still have a lot of respect for creators like Peggy or Newsea for all their hard work and creativity.

Don't suppose you could be convinced to add an RSS feed to your site so it could be followed by a 'reader' . . . attempts to add you continues to give me an error message that your site is not set up to allow for this. While I understand completely your feelings towards MS3b, it pained me to realize I had missed your return to the community. Your work is stunning and I would hate to miss your future offerings. Yes, it's incredible some users are that rude... we all must be extra thankful, because thanks to creators like you, our game is special, we can create our dreamed sims! It's sad how a lot of great creators had chose not sharing because of the bad comments of a bunch of bastards who, as you say, thinks they're in the right of bashing a creator for doing something the don't like/it's not perfect... and such...I totally agree with you, there's a lot of bad comments on MS3B toward the creators, and it's very sad, I always try not to reading them and going to the pages of the creators directly, because most of time I want to punch those commenters right in the face >;E

I'm very thankful, even when I don't comment in most of the items I download, most of times because I go in a download spree for the lack of time -_-. And I'm happy you decided to keep sharing your wonderful work. ^_^

I think the real loss from MS3B is largely silent, both in "great creators" losing motivation to create CC and in completely new people being afraid to start. Personally, I'd love to get my hands on the trolls' IP addresses and ban them all from my site.

i absolutely agree with you, and the abuse and rudeness of people is exactly why i haven't (and don't plan to) shared any of my little creations outside of tumblr. i get helpful, kind, and constructive feedback that has helped me to improve the project i am working on. i dread the day i see something i've created on ms3b.

on another note, i was so excited to see an update from you :) yours is one of the first cc sites i found, and your patterns are some of my most used.

In any case, if I had to choose between the two (MS3B and TSR), then I would choose TSR. At least TSR protects their own artists.

I have a blog with sims on it, but I'm in no rush to see them on the MS3B. I'm still pissed about Helaene. She was my favorite since Sims 2. The last comment I put on their was my jubilant reaction to Fresh Prince's cars coming back. Other than than that, I agree with Aikea Guinea about not wanting anything to do with the troll breeding ground.

I love your stuff, and hope to see more of it.

What happened to Helaene makes me sad. I put her makeup on just about every TS2 sim I made.

Aikea was actually the person who tipped me off that I could just ask MS3B not to feature my creations (she mentioned it while we were chatting irl). I feel so much better not to be affiliated with it anymore because it feels like I'm no longer perpetuating the system.
